PLACING HERITAGE AT THE HEART OF LONDON'S FUTURE
VISION
Millennium Mills, a celebration of London's timeless maritime story. A place that welcomes all to discover a sense of community, place and pride within the city. It will become London's latest liveable quarter that will be socially, environmentally and economically sustainable with heritage at its heart.
DESIGN OBJECTIVES
COMMUNITY
Generating long-term social value and opportunities for community ownership to the benefit of all.
PLACE
Crafting a distinct and beautiful new piece of London that is recognised for its human scale.
CONNECTIVITY
To be well and sustainably connected to its surroundings, Newham and wider London.
HERITAGE
Placing heritage at the heart of the community to emphasise local historic roots and shape the future.
SUSTAINABILITY
To create an environmentally sustainable place that will serve the existing and future generations.
OPPORTUNITIES
To be an economic and educational hub that recognises talent and nurtures opportunities to grow.
SITE LOCATION
The site is located in the borough of Newham in London, United Kingdom, forming part of the Royal Docks.
Millennium Mills, also called Silvertown Quays, is an (approx.) 64-acre site in a prime location of London, close to London City Airport and the ExCeL Centre. Located on the site are two landmark historic buildings: Millennium Mills (Locally Listed) and Silo D (Grade II-listed).
MEET THE TEAM
The project required us to collaborate on the initial vision for the site. As a team, we were expected to analyse the area and produce a masterplan that would respond to the challenges of Millennium Mills.
Although each of us focused on developing different sections of the website, we worked together to develop ideas for the holistic regeneration of the site and consulted with each other throughout the process. Following the collaboration, we were required to individually focus on certain aspects of the site. These sections are linked below.
